Mzimba youths urged to conceive innovative ideas

M’Mbelwa District Council youth officer Yamikani Nyalugwe has urged youths in Mzimba District to conceive innovative ideas that would translate into business opportunities.

He said this on Saturday on the sidelines of a meeting the Ministry of Youths and Sports organised to disseminate the country’s National Youth Policy to the district’s youth technical working group.

Said Nyalugwe: “As we have heard from the presentations, the National Youth Policy, among others, seeks to empower youths to deal with economic challenges by creating an enabling environment for them to achieve sustainable personal and national development.

“Now, because of the element of innovation, we appeal to the youth to be innovative to create solutions to most of the challenges such as unemployment.”

He said most youths in Malawi lack opportunities because they are not innovative enough.

“We face so many challenges which one can solve by coming up with new ideas,” said Nyalugwe.

The ministry’s deputy director Kettie Mwandira highlighted the ministry’s focus on increasing awareness and understanding of the National Youth Policy.

“We are here to ensure that the council understands the policy and is guided in terms of how to design and implement youth-related programmes,” she said.

Mwandira called for unity in implementing the policy, noting that youth issues require collective responsibility.

The National Youth Policy 2023-2028 seeks to empower youths to deal with social, cultural, economic and political challenges to achieve their potential.
